What is a good shim thickness to start out with on the pinion in a 7.5 10 bolt.

The stock one under the original gear set.
.030 -.035 some where in there.

Run the pattern around and around bunches of time you have to be sure the pattern is correct.

First off you have to keep the backlash close to the proper distance to check the pattern .002 .003 is JUST too tight. You need to check at .008 -.010

From what I can see the pattern shows too shallow. You will get noise. Try not to use a flash on the pictures just light the gears good and use NO FLASH. Jim

You said on the phone you had .020 for the pinion

HAve to have more backlash. to make sure remove more from driver side and add to pass side. Jim

PLease let me know what you did to the last 4 pictures ?

All you needed to do was open up the backlash...OR is this what it looks like after opening up the backlash at .020 pinion shim?

I need numbers to help you. Jim

WOW just hate it... The .020 was the best in all the pictures so far. I can not believe that a .030 shim will end up being the correct shim...??? From all the pictures

ARE you sure your shims are sitting flat and flush on the pinion stem they should not be climbing / bending up ward on the center of the doughnut of the shim. Jim

GOD - Did you ever take pictures of the .030 -.025 shim? with .008 backlash? Jim
