Edelbrock No-hop bar fitment issue on 71' 8.5" Buick

Post by 67drake »

Figured I'd post this info in case anybody else runs in this issue.
I was trying to get my Edelbrock No-hop bars onto my 71' Buick 8.5 rear, and they would not fit. After posting this issue on Chevelles.com and Pontiac Performance Years web sites, I see that these bars fit on the 12 bolts and 8.2"'s easily, but many guys have had problems mounting them on 8.5's. My lower arm would not tuck under the webbing on the center section, and would also hit the case lugs on each side,as seen in my 1st pic.

I ended up grinding and filing about 1/4" off of the drivers side bar,and about 1/8" off of the passenger side.

I also had to grind the corner of the lug off as seen here.

Now everything fits. It was not too hard of a job,but if using the Edelbrock bars on an 8.5,don't be surprised if they don't just "bolt on".
Thanks for all the help Jim!
