Need Help Identifying This 10 Bolt

Post by 66elky »

Hi all,
I need to ID my 10bolt belived to be a BOP rear.
The stamp code on the axle tube is: SS B117 1 (really need to decifer this)
The gearing is 3.23:1 and is a positraction Eaton style carrier.
There are other identifiers casted into the center section like the letter "A" in three places, "CFD", "1235197", "11" and a date code "110"
The wheel cylinders have on them "2940" and "15/16". The axles are bolted in type and 28 splined. The cover has a stamped number "1234496". The distance between the flanges are approx 54-1/2"
This came off my donor 67 Chevelle any info on this will be helpful thanks in advance.

Can you shoot some pictures of the housing.

Also what kind of bolts are used to hold the u-joint in place ? u-bolts and nuts or 4 straight bolts and 2 straps?

Just looked in my personal casting book...It is a 10 bolt 8.5 rear it has a ROUND cover like chevy but it is different with only 1/2 the oil trough to the right up part of the cover.

it has 4 bolts and 2 strap u-joint retention and a 1 1/4" nut that hold the yoke in place.

The rear is really from 1971 1972 oldsmobile.

So there you have it. This is a keeper and will handle plenty of horses. :) Jim
