Just another Monza guy here.
Hi everyone, I'm Jason, a monza owner looking for answers to a bunch of questions on beefing up my monza 7.5 rear for street use. I also want rear disc brakes and that's where all the questions arise. I had an 82 Z-28 with rear disc and I thought saving the backing plate/caliper mount was going to work but apparently not. I am aware of the 98 up s-10 two wheel drive rear ends with disc but no luck finding one and I'd prefer to keep my stock axle housing and brackets. I have not pulled the rear end out yet but its in a 79 monza 4 cylinder with 4 speed. I'm swapping all of my 75 monza v8 stuff and some 75 body stuff on to the 79 shell. I didn't keep the 75 rear so I am forced to use the 79. I'm sure the 79 rear is probably a two series carrier and the posi out of the z-28 is a 3.42 so probably won't work, so aftermarket it is. I'm also going five lug on my monza and have 26 spline axles from an s-10. My biggest question is sourcing backing plates/caliper mounts. I've heard of the scarebird stuff but can't find them now. This project is a long way from being finished but I got to start somewhere on logistics and researching what's available. Any suggestions?

Jason, Glad to see you found us... We have done many of these conversions.
The trouble is TIME... The longer you wait the harder it gets to find stock parts...Seems the whole world is killing all older scrap yards. So find a literally THROW AWAY H body car is TOUGH....lol.
the strongest way to make the 7.5 rear is to go 28 spline axles.
Gears will be another hurdle...
all gears need to be machined for the 7.5 mon=za as all 7.5 except monza 7.5 are 1.438 shaft...Where as the monza is 1.376" diameter.
we machine these gears and you can use a S-10 yoke which again monza is 25 spline pinion yoke spline compared to all other 7.5 27 pinion spline.
Disc brakes.... BIG problem here. The inner frame wheel well is your enemy...
it is too shallow to handle most all calipers from rubbing.
I have seen guys clock them closer to the ground and that is scary as the ground water debris etc can make a mess of the calipers longevity + you have bleed the system with the caliper high and then install it low after bleeding etc.
Some people have installed a wider rear with deep back spacing like a camaro from 1995- 2002 era and then all the parts are in the rim of the wheel ...
MANY MANY ways to do stuff and many ways to waste your money doing it...
Becareful.
