Man, Can any body do there job right??? HUMMMM ! Well that will all depend on the area it rides... chromeing that part could do it ...but may be expensive...more expensive than getting a new one. how deep is the score? you could have a grinding shop take it down some. I can not see the depth of the damage...

Or you can run and silicone the outer diameter of the bearing so the gear oilr does not seep past it once it get by the axle seal.

It will only be on really hard turns where it will be an issue at all like freeway on ramp that goes 180 degrees on and off etc. or doughnut burn outs...lol..

I guess I would say tell the guy that removed it (if it is you your screwed) about the damage and your gonna run it. if it does not work out and there is terrible leaking he will have to fork over some dough for a replacement. (at least something to compensate...) Jim

Hi guys, I just found this thread.
Joe, How did you finally make out with this rear?

Thought I'd add some additional info:
Someone asked me what pinion seal to use on a 66 GS rear....The Timken site shows #2043....that's wrong! You would think the manufacturer could give the correct info.... but noooo! Sheesh!

As posted earlier, correct Timken # is 8620N
GM # is 1362360.
I show a SKF/National/NAPA interchange # for that # of 16500. There may be an OS or NOS prefix.
Don't forget to install a new O ring on that pinion too...GM#1373749. I went to my local bearing/seal store to match one up.

Thanks for the extra info always appropriated CORRECT info. We are one of the few that do have the correct parts in the ID differential section. :)

Buick housings from 1964-1970 used that 8620 seal for the pinion
the 2043 was used on the Pontiac 8.2 10 bolts all the way to 1972 and is still used today in the 1970-1999 8.5 rears. Then the NEW trucks started using a new 3 lip seal in the 8.6 rear...Which is a 8.5 with larger carrier bearings and a sleeved stock 8.5 old yoke...lol. You can remove the thin steel sleeve and use the old seal on the same 1999-2009 yoke. How about that for a joke....lol. :D Jim
You can always ask right here on the forum and double check with us and HOPEFULLY registered users like you that will help cut through all the book info to the physical ACTUAL info. :) Jim

Keep up the great work out there and keep the correct info flowing for all of us.
