Buick 8.2 SET9 Bearing Install

Post by 70supreme »

I was wondering if I should pack Timken SET9 tapered bearings with wheel bearing grease before I install the rear axles back in the rear end?

You really should not need to- some bearings come packed with grease.... but as long as you oil them pretty good while spinning the bearing that should be good then install them right away. you can also squirt extra gear oil in the axle tube also.
If the rear is out of the car and you have every thing seal except fore the cover - install your gear oil 2 quarts and seal the cover.
tip rear 45 degrees so oil runs down the axle tube for about 20 - 30 seconds or so then tip the other way a bit longer as it will take a little more time to get to the other side.
That will oil them up pretty good too.
install double check fluid on a flat surface ...go test drive. :)
