1978 Formula Sunbird
1978 Formula Sunbird
Not a new area, but I am rebuilding my 78 Formula Sunbird and I will need a strong rearend that can handle up to 600 horsepower. Additionally, I want to put on disc brakes. What are my options for a bolt in operation? Where are you located?
Re: 1978 Formula Sunbird
Not much as options.
You will need a donor rear end for brackets -
12 bolt chevy we use the camaro Moser center for the torque arm connection and then have to weld on the brackets from the donor rear to your NEW Moser housing 12 bolt rear...Same with Ford 9" or any other aftermarket set-up.
We just ladder bared our race car...
BUT you might be able to make that more streetable with more travel...ours is only about 3" in the back for travel...it is only a race car...not a street car...even though it does not look like much of a race car...as you see it - 9.95 1.300 60foot 26 x 10 slicks 10 bolt 8.5 rear 33 spline axle full spool 3.73 gears 350th trans 5000 stall trans brake leaving at 3200 377 destroke 400. SBC stocke gm 400 block
600hp on a Limited slip unit is pushing its capability way too far also.
just a no win with that kind of power -
you start getting into wave trac 1500-2000 posi units 35 spline axles...just way out of wack pricing.
what are your intentions with all this HP
anything can be made its just MONEY where the problem comes in....
disc brakes are VERY VERY hard on a H body with out tubbing the cars inner fender well WHICH is basically the FRAME of the back of the car.
