How does it feel with oil on the gears? Nice and smooth both ways? Looks pretty good to me. I just hate the fact that the backlash is so tight. BUT 2 step gears are suppose to be that tight...??? Looks good to me. Jim

Here is the final check of the pattern after pressing on the 'real' pinion bearing--

Still with the .036 shim, and backlash was between .004 and .005.
Break in process going on now, so far they are quiet as stock. I did put a mag-hytec cover on with magnetic dipstick, and there are already some metal shavings on it after about 50 miles. Hoping its just break in/left over machining particles. I will watch it closely. After a 10 minute ride the temp is about 120 degrees with temp gun, on the pinion area.

Here is a pic of that number on the pinion. There was one on the ring gear too.

Looks pretty good. Boy now you got that pattern with .036 Not .010. :) What a huge gap because the shims ride up on the pinion shaft huh?

I think you look good . You can tinker more if you like. Try to pt more fluid on the coast side and make the ring gear drag with a rag and spin the yoke. MAKE the ring and pinion torque as hard as you can. Then see what the pattern looks like. Jim
