Need help with a richmond ring & pinion...

Post by coolbmw »

Gear found in my late father's garage and has been there since at least 1985, new in box.

It has the following numbers, on the ring it says: 80-7325-1
the pinion says: 80-8325-1.

I cannot reference these numbers anywhere online, including the richmond web site. I do know it is a 4.10 ratio per teeth count with 29 spline count and 12 bolt on the ring.

I do know back then he had a 1974 olds 98 with the 455 engine.

The Question is: Does this belong in the 74 olds 98 and if not what is it from/what will it fit??

Any help is appreciated!

What is the outside and inside diameter of the ring? 74 Olds could have had 2 different 12 bolt rings, if that is what it is for...either 9.375 or 8.875...8.875 had 30 spliner pinion so I'm, guessing the 9.375 but I didn't think anybody made aftermarket gears for those. If they are for the 9.375 I'd be interested in buying them if you want to part with em.

Definetly 29 spline count. Using a tape measurer, I get inside dia = 6 3/4 an doutside dia = 9 5/8.

That's assuming I would measure accross from the top of the teeth???

And this is stamped by Richmond.

Actually yes and no...outside yes across the teeth, on the inside I measure where it meets the carrier..With the large outside diameter I'm thinking either 9.375 Olds or a 3/4 Ton pickup...If it's even GM..There is a possibility of a Dana, Chrysler, or Ford...all had rings around that size..best thing to do would be to call Richmond directly and quiz them about the stamped numbers.

Then I get 6 1/2 for the inside dia. Wouldn't that make it a 9.625", since outside dia is 9 5/8?

And your right, I will contact Richmond, they should know what was archived.

Thanks!

29 spline I bet it is a dana 60 with that size diameter... But what size bolt holes and are they reverse thread or common normal thread bolts.

Could be a drop out pontiac olds gasser rear gear set too.

How about some pictures? Jim
