Thanks, I'll open it up soon and report the findings. I'll also look for the date casting.

I opened the cover and found 41 teeth on the ring gear and 16 on the pinion...so 2.56:1. I unfortunately couldn't find the date casting, however I saw where one may have deteriorated beyond recognition on the fwd middle flange adjacent to the other casting serial #.

Yep a lot of 2.56 2.73 12 bolt rears out there alright. :) Edge of the ring gear might have the date tooth count and ring part number...Spin the ring and wipe the edge with a rag. Jim
