8.2 Buick Rear end Axle Bearings

Post by 70supreme »

I have an 8.2 Buick Rear end (1385724) with Axle Diameter of 1.437 and I am wondering if there is any bearings and seals available for this rear end? Also looking to get a new crush sleeve as the ring and pinion was removed previously (Carrier number is 2821960) and the one on it seems small (Approx. .525 in thickness), can some one tell me the right crush sleeve to purchase for this as well?

No Crush sleeves for that rear.... Please post a picture of it and the ID of the sleeve and if it is a bell type or equal top to bottom type.
No Axle bearings and seals obsolete.
Wagon bearing RW507GR ---- might find some on ebay ...If not there try V8 Buick.com BRIAN TRICK
Crush sleeve we have retro fit other to work just need the specs of your old one.

I have attached a picture of the inner pinion bearing, the race from the axle bearing, the crush sleeve on the pinion (no ID that I can see) and the pinion itself. Looking at the number on the inner pinion bearing it looks like it is a GS only bearing, but looking at the axle bearing race it looks like it is from the set9 bearing family (U261L). Do I have the 1.382 axles? Do I have to remove the bearing from the axle to get the diameter measurements? The number on the rear end housing is 1385724 4-N and the number on the carrier is 2821960. This rear end is confusing and want to make sure I order the correct parts.

Ok, So you have a 1970 rear. It takes the A9 / set9 axle bearings.
The crush sleeve is a small top and bottom. I think we can retro fit a sleeve for that.
The 1968 - 1970 is ALL buick alone.
It has a larger 1.875 shaft diameter pinion and it has two different size carrier bearings also.
WHat bearings do you want / need? Jim
We have complete kits for 149.00 which include cover gaskets pinion seal crush sleeve ring bolts all the center section bearings and races shims etc.

Hi Jim, I wasn't sure of the diameter of the axles so I removed the race from the housing and luckily there was a number on them. As of right now I am only looking to get the crush sleeve, pinion seal, carrier shim kit and the marking compound. Want to test the rear end without replacing the bearings first as they seem good to me.
