76 monza

Post by 1976monza350 »

I was looking at the bolt in gm 8.5 for a 76 monza on the website. What is the pricing on this unit? Does it require any modifications or parts outside of the factory car, such as a different, shorter driveshaft or different coil springs? Thank in advance!

Yah, That stuff only is available if you have a core rear we can use to get brackets from.
PLUS you will need to figure out the torque arm mod deal on your own...Many ways that can be done.
We really just provide the narrowed housing these days and most customers install the brackets on themselves

Any 10 bolt 8.5 replacement in a GM vehicle will require the driveshaft be shorten... the amount is usually 1" -1.25"
- that should be measured after the rear is installed and at ride height for the drive line shop to know the correct length needed.

Prices get up there and normally the prices paid for the H-body car are low and customers deem it over price to pay on a low dollar car.
I have 3 H-body cars personally - you just have to like your car and know that making money on a h-body really is not an option....it will always eat more money than make....lol. :)

We have done Moser rears 12 bolt for customers but they get pricey. (pictures below.) This one was 3750.00 with wilwood Brakes.
We can use the 12 bolt housing for a camaro and narrow it ...use the monza /vega brackets to create a bolt in monza rear.

So in other words I'm better off running the 7.5 until it grenades and then picking up a bigger better rear. Is there any was to strengthen the 7.5? Also could you direct me to some information on an s10 axle swap?

28 spline axles...buy aftermarket if you are looking for the most strength
Moser 26 7/8" length
28 spline
5 lug
1/2" x 20 screw in studs (or you can get any stud you want as it is custom

Aftermarket Posi eaton, Auburn, True trac, Power trax, Detroit Locker...GM unit usually are not strong enough for the spirited constant hard driving we all do.

Aftermarket gears will all be CUSTOM again
We sell them from time to time when we make runs of them.

S-10 axles 1982 - 1989 2wd will usually be 26 spline a direct slide in and go replacement....Sometime the drum will rub on the backing plate as the s-10 axles are slightly shorter at 26 3/4 long compared to the 26 7/8" long monza axles.
1990 -2004 s-10 2wd will be 28 spline a stronger axle but you will need to replace the carrier with a 1990 -2004 Newer carrier from a camaro, firebird, s-10 etc. Or buy aftermarket 28 spline posi as stated earlier in this post.

We have a selection of good used s-10 swap axles from time to time...think we have a few pairs on the shelf now. 28 spline. 26 are getting really tough to find and to find in good used condition after that...

YOU MUST HAVE 9.5 x 2 brakes or the axle conversion will not work.

What pinion seal do I need to run with a yoke from a 98 S10 is it the 8610? I keep reading that the 98 yolk uses a triple lip seal and I don't think the 8610 is a triple lip.

Just peel the GM stainless sleeve from the yoke and it will be ALL normal again 8610. If not your going to pay 3 times as much for a seal.
