8.5 Auburn Diff

Post by Bigpig455 »

I've got a Aubrurn diff in a 71 GS455 with an 8.5, and it's doing something funny. The car runs 12.7's with a 1.83 60 foot, and sometimes when the car spins at the line, the diff seems to lock. The run goes fine, but when I take the tight turn off, the car gives a big snap and the rear jumps a little, kind alike a locker.
Has anyone hear ever experienced an auburn rear temporarily locking up? I know it's a little worn, sometimes on the burnout the left wheel gets a little lazy.

You will need to open her up. It may only be a heat issue and in the turn it grabs from too much heat from the run and brake torque at the starting line or you have spider gear issues. Jim

You can PM here too if it makes things easier. Sometimes hard to get on the phone.
