set up specs

in the usa standard gear set-up booklet under diff. set up it has old 5 cut/ new 2 cut for gm 8.5&8.6, how do you tell the difference? different back lash settings

2 cut is a GM gear only... The set-up pattern is the only way to tell. Just have to stick it in the rear and see what you get...OR the dealer ship hopefully knows when they sell it. Jim

Usually it is a much more helical cut gear

did a bunch of research before your reply and a company called AAM has a page that states on a 2cut the tooth height is the same on toe and heel, and on a 5cut the toe height is shorter than the heel.

So a slanted gear is 5 cut and a straight across from inner to outer diameter is 2 cut. ... Hmmm seems a bit fishy... I think there might be more to it than that... :)

All I do know is when the pattern comes up it sure is different than the 5 cut gear... :)

gaps are tight for the 2 cut 1-3 AND 5 CUT 6-8 GM...

aam MAKES THE 2 CUT GEARS FOR gm
HEY MAKE REAR END casing and much more... they are taking over what dana corp use to be big on...
