Hello All, My first post so bear with me! I have a 1968 Buick Riviera with a standard 10 bolt differential with 3.07 gears. I have an issue with the rear-end making a heck of a racket. I took it to a local mechanic and he said he thought it was the axle bearings and that the RR axle was bent. he said when turning the drum it is not true. My questions are-

1)How do I know if the axle needs replacement?
2)Where can I get the axle bearings and axle

Thanks,
Michael

You will need to find a machine shop with a lathe and chuck it up and they will dial indicate the rear for running true. There will always be a small amount of run out on all axles But they will tell you if the thing is good or bad.

We might have a axle good used on the rack will need a length of your axle with the attached picture for reference on how to measure the length.
