Re: .....and it comes like it had to come...
...can't get a pic from cover or any information for now.
Re: .....and it comes like it had to come...
..if i can get this 66 Cuttlas-GM 8.2" for a good price and installed pair aftermarket (maybe) Moser axles, and a good Posi ( maybe Eaton) and a Alum-Diff-cover.....i have investigate a lot of cash and it is still not a good solution for my heavy 65 Olds conv.with (future) 400-450Hp correct?
Because we don´t have so many drag strips (and good weather) like you, the car will see 30% Street, 60% Garage and 10% Strip

Re: .....and it comes like it had to come...
65 olds can not be that big...lol. Compared to what? a VW passat?
So you want prices on parts for your rear diff? That rear will hold as long as you install the part correctly they will take alot and it has bolt in axles too so your rear quarter will be safe too. Jim

About the narrowed GM 8.5 you offer:
- are the Ring and Gear set stock or aftermarket ?
- stock narrowed axles or aftermarket narrowed axles ?

Re: .....and it comes like it had to come...
THe stock rear for the car was a 10 bolt 8.2 - It will bolt right back in with out a u-joint swap or shortening of the drive shaft. IF it is a 10 bolt 7.5 IF it is a 8.5 you have under the car right now the drive shaft will need to be longer by 1.25 inches.
Gears are aftermarket most of the time unless we have a GM original gear in the ratio you want
doesn't your stock 65 rear have the axle shafts in the housing? just add new bearings and yoru good. WE do have after market alloy axles much stronger but for the street it will not usually be necessary. Jim

Re:.....and it comes like it had to come...
Jim,about your question:
...doesn't your stock 65 rear have the axle shafts in the housing? just add new bearings and you good.
I don´t have the stock 8.2
Maybe i explained wrong because my English not the best (sorry if so), so here are the fact and questions:
Under the car ( 65 442-Olds Convertible) right now, is a 10 Bolt 7.5" that i wanted to change to a completely bolt in narrowed (to 7.5" length) GM 8.5" rear, that can handle the Olds 455 BB torque (400-450Hp) with some sticky tires.
Car will see maybe 80% Street and 20% Strip.
You offer me:
- complete narrowed GM 8.5 rear ( that can handle some BB strip action)
- good reconditioned Posi
- new bearings and seals
- new shorter stock axles and aftermarket gears- choice 2.56 2.73 3.08 3.42 3.73 4.10
Hope i can save some hard working money and can reuse my existing GM 7.5 drum-brakes?
Or come the 8.5 rear complete with Brakes?

Re: .....and it comes like it had to come...
Denis, Must have missed this a lone time ago...
First off if you have a Big Block, You are not going to want to cut corners on a street strip car. BAD news for YOU and me both. You have to buy good stuff here. Stock parts will not cut Big block aftermarket power.
If you do not have the money to complete the rear project there is no sense in doing at this time. Save up and do it right the first time. Doing half cocked will just leave you stranded somewhere and paying more money in tows that your could have designated for the build in the first place. JIm
