Check my gear pattern pics

Post by 67drake »

I'll just copy and paste my other thread. It takes me about 15 minutes to load these photos otherwise!
Pics here- http://forums.performanceyears.com/foru ... p?t=664838
Thanks!

wow, oK that is fine, HArd to tell as you need more oil and more turns to get a better pattern. Do not hesitate to really spin that ring round and round and round.

I hope these pics are better for you. Coast side pattern looks "funny" to me. These are used, but low mile gears, can this cause the weird pattern?
.042 under pinion gear,backlash around .006-.008"
Thanks!

Yes the coast side is USUALLY what you go off of on the used gears and yours appears to be a bit deep try .039 ish area Iand I bet you will be dead on. Jim

.009 .010 backlash for checking if you can. :) Take care, Jim

OK. I checked my pinion shims and they actually mic'ed out closer to .043" than .042". So I changed the .043" shim stack to .040". Backlash is at .090-.011". How does it look now?
Thanks!

For good used set of gears I say go with it. Do your final assembly and double check everything. If it looks good after that. Button the cover up full it and RUN IT. Let us know how it turns out. JIm

Just wanted you to know everything came out fine. 8)
I got my shortened driveshaft back today from the shop, then buttoned everything up after setting pinion angle. No noise or vibrations.
Thanks for all the help Jim! I've sent quite a few guys your way when they are looking for rear end or gear help.
