it is likely a early 1952- 1956 era 9.3 rear. You have to pull an axle shaft.
if the axle shaft is 10 spline it is Pontiac 16 spline Oldsmobile

I always put my marking compound in a little plastic little mixing dish and some gear oil mixed... thins it out and also makes it go further. As is it looks pretty...

It is sometimes a trial and error. if you have .007 adding .002 to the pass side and removing .001 -.002 should do it. BUT that depends on how much preload you have on the carrier to depend how far it will actually register on the dial indicator. (hope that makes sense.) MATH IS EASY IN A PERFECT WO...

nothing I can see on that gear has any issues. Yes you can do a scotch brite pad wire wheel etc to remove that surface stuff.

Ok, So you have a 1970 rear. It takes the A9 / set9 axle bearings. The crush sleeve is a small top and bottom. I think we can retro fit a sleeve for that. The 1968 - 1970 is ALL buick alone.
