Re: bop 8.2 gear swap
Send pics of pattern before removing anything. You will need a larger splitter type bearing remover and a press is the best. I really do not like the heat thing as people usually get the bearing too hot and end over over tempering it... they it will fail. It is something you might do for a demo derb...

Re: bop 8.2 gear swap
Spacers in a BOP 8.2 rear are tricky. The stock posi units are a 2 piece set-up meaning the cone is one piece and the side gear sits on top. So if you do not have it centered enough in the case you could risk engaging only one piece and it will ruin the unit very quickly. so a 2 series flange is abo...

Re: 1964 Cutlass "Frankenstein Build" is Alive but Idle drops with Custom Cam
e thought the regulator too. had 3-4 different types on the car now. 2 different pumps Never tried to simulate standing still. Revving never seemed to be an issue. ONLY when we started on E85 has this problem occurred. I have the gas carb back on and might make a few runs same set up but with gas ca...

Re: Gear pattern
If you have any debris from when the ring was installed to the carrier...It would cause this. some time when the gear gets pulled or pressed on to the carrier the carrier body may get scraped from some material and then this gets lodged between the ring machined surface and the carrier machined surf...

Re: Gear pattern
oH bOY ...BEING A CHEAP GEAR this might be a difficult deal ...lol. Buy low cost get low cost. :( Well that pattern is very skippy to get an idea on. the pinion shim is in the neighborhood of where most 8.5 gears set-up. Backlash is too wide. .010 is where we want to be for a pattern do you have the...

open up the backlash for now to get a better pattern and then squirt a little bit of gear on the teeth and spin that rear around 5-6 time forward and backwards. Show more pics. Jim

Re: Gear pattern
Pattern looks pretty good so far...BUT we must have the backlash reading to be sure. Normally the 8.5 will use a .038 - .035 pinion shim - AGAIN this is from years and years of setting up rears. What ever the gear wants to get a good pattern that is where you go with the pinion shim depth. Also try ...

Re: Gear pattern

thursday time run halloween classic 2021.JPG E85 lets you run a High compression motor and at the time it was 250.00 a gallon. OR the alternative of 110 race fuel which is minimum for this 12.5 to 1 motor at 12 to 13 dollars a gallon...God....NO!... Jim gave the car 1/2 sec on the Et also. Runs the...

Re: 1964 Cutlass "Frankenstein Build" is Alive but Idle drops with Custom Cam
LOL. It is ok, BUT you kept going. Like I said there is ALWAYS a reason. Now I wish I could figure out my E85 issues with the race car...lol. This is a GOOD thing and TIME is never wasted when your learning - We both have learned from this. Like I did say it did sound like a Vacuum leak BUT where it...

Re: Axle Bearings
That is the newer tapered bearing design SET9 A9 BR9 gear set. No one makes the straight NON TAPERED axle bearing for these axles anymore. 1971 - 1976 era seals will be 712146 .490 thick...NOW they only sell .470 seal thickness and that cause leak trouble with a tapered bearing combination. Jim JD R...
