Re: 69 Buick posi

Hey Jim! You put this together last year with the original 3.23 gears! Thank you. Now to get it on a car. I was just checking old posts here and saw my question- thought I would close the deal.

Re: 1965 Buick full-size (Wildcat/Electra/LaSabre/etc) posi

I sure would like to see your Wildcat- I've got a collection of them. You could look for a posi from a Riviera 63-65, they are the same center section and gears, (65 they were standard with 3.23:1 ) Riv has a flange arrangement to bolt the driveshaft to it and the Wildcats have the u-joint - just ha...

Re: 1965 Buick full-size (Wildcat/Electra/LaSabre/etc) posi

Wow, hope Jim chimes in here, but not true about being throw away- there is a detailed description of how to work on these rears in the chassis manual, and I have had a couple 65 Wildcat center sections rebuilt, bearings changed, etc... You will have to use the ring and the pinion from your current ...

Re: Part needed-crush sleeve '70

Jim, its a 70 GS455 stage1- has the 3.64 (stock) in there now, but I'm
more into driving on the highway than drag strip, so its 3.23 gear time.
Thanks,
Ted

Part needed-crush sleeve '70

Hi Jim, I need a crush sleeve to rebuild a '70 rear end. The one I took out was about
.575.
Jim Weise @ Tri-Shield is working on it, but he instructed me to buy a new sleeve from you.

69 Buick posi

Hi Jim,
I have a carrier; 69 (GS350) 3.23:1 gears were on it-
Does this one work with your new 3.42:1 sets?
Can it work with a 2.93:1 set of gears?
I need to come up to see you with some of my
projects- are you going to Nowalk this year?

Re: 2.56 Highway Posi

Are you going to BPG? I can bring 1 or 2 69/69 project rear ends.
Thanks, Ted

2.56 Highway Posi

Jim,
can we change this 2.56 open to posi? Its from a 68 Skylark.

On a 2.93 Posi from a 68 GS, how do you handle the cone if its too worn to engage any more?
I've got on ein my 68 GS400 thats not really hooking strongly, wondered how this is corrected.

Here is what I have on my lift today...I'm attempting my first differential swap and have bolloxed up the seal in front... it went together well other than that! This set up is similar to the BOP 8.2 with a pinion crush sleeve, spacers on either side of the carrier bearings. http://i51.photobucket.c...

Right! I know I had a problem once with my 65 Wagon. Measured my new assembly and it was 1" wider, and I knew the wheel and tire combo I had was not going to be happy with that extra width. Now i am over cautious. I'll have to measure the '67 again. It seems like I did measure a 67 and expected...

More questions on Buick rear end

I have a 68 Skylark 2.93 open rear.
Is there a difference in width between that one and '69 GS350
3.23 posi rear end?
Thanks, Ted :?:

Right! I know mixing them is not an option. What I was thinking is either 1 replace pinion and ring w/posi, possibly requiring new crush sleeve. or 2 keep current pinion in place, pull carrier, swap rings put current ring on posi carrier, re-install. I had not thought of option 2 till I was writing ...

9.375 Parts? Big Buick

I have a posi out of a 71 Centurion to install in my 71 Centurion. It looks like I need a "crush sleeve" and a pinion seal to trade these. Are these sleeves available for the 9.375" pinion? Or should I install the original ring on the posi carrier and not mess with changing the pinion...
