You got all kinds of headaches there huh ?? :( Pull the axles and measure the bearing 90 degree land the axle presses against. They are at different offsets. One axle is a sealed bearing axle and one axle...

Re: Oldsmobile type ‘O’ 12 bolt question
No Each bearing has a different OD dimension.
sealed bearing has a OD of : 2.7475
Oiled Bearing has a OD of: 2.5591
CAN NOT be interchanged and even the axle shafts are different. The offset of where the bearing land is machined on the axle shaft.

Re: Oldsmobile type ‘O’ 12 bolt question
IT WILL NOT FIT your 672 or any POSI unit carrier case. THEY are totally different. You need a OPEN carrier with just regular open spider gear case.

Re: Oldsmobile type ‘O’ 12 bolt question
The spider gears on the posi unit look like they are DONE. So I can see why you were looking for some. That will be a HARD find as these rears were only used in 67- 70 era...then less were posi and EVEN WAY less 67 68 year only and 3.42 - 500 ratio only were 31 spline units. sooo very needle in the ...

Some one has obviously been inside the carrier and swapped out the side gears IF a 28 spline axle fits this carrier. 672 carrier holds FACTORY ratios as follows 3.42 3.90 4.33 4....

Re: 8.2 Buick posi Oil type
Do not buy Gear oil with limited slip additive in it... REASON: You do not know what the % on additive to oil is in that bottle. THEY never tell you that... we have had nothing but failure with the additive in the gear oil. Buy the oil - and the additive separate. They only way to insure the % of ad...

Re: 8.2. Buick Carrier Gear Pattern
ok, get the carrier in there if you have new bearings on the carrier the same original shim pack really should get it done... as long as the gear set was original to the housing and was running good. (noise free) AGAIN if you are reusing the carrier bearings and races and you can pull the carrier ou...

Re: 8.2. Buick Carrier Gear Pattern
yes about 10 inch lbs of spinning torque...obviously not a standard click torque wrench.
remove the in out play on the bearing and work the nut against the crush sleeve till the achieved spin is correct.
